I also served from 2018-2024 as MIT's first "Convener for Ethical Life," a role in which I brought together diverse stakeholders across the Institute to explore what it means to live an ethical life in a technological world. MIT ORSEL restructured in 2024 to eliminate its 5 or so Convener positions, which was something of a mercy on my schedule as I'm launching the book, but this role was extremely meaningful for me and wanted to include it on my LinkedIn!

I was honored to be asked by my peers to serve a one-year term in this part-time, facilitative role. It was especially meaningful to be of service during the pandemic, when campus life was undergoing an unprecedented transition, as I explored in an essay for the Boston Globe's Ideas section in Sept. 2020. During my term I worked closely with chaplain colleagues and with my direct supervisor, the Chief of Staff to the President of Harvard University, to significantly expand the job description and administrative responsibilities of the President of the Harvard Chaplains, on the request of the Office of the President of Harvard University. Other highlights included assisting in organizing Harvard's official programming to mark a return to campus after 18 months; representing the Harvard Chaplains in aiding and accompanying Ukrainian, Belorussian, and pro-Ukraine Russian students advocating for moral and practical support from the Harvard community amid Russia's war on Ukraine; and administrative coordination for Harvard Chaplains of African descent as they supported Harvard students and administrators around the publication of the Report of the Presidential Committee on Harvard & the Legacy of Slavery. I am also proud to have provided a visible example of the potential for trained atheist/agnostic clergypersons to work not only as humanist chaplains but also in formal leadership roles within interfaith organizations. Look for much more of that from my wonderful colleagues, as the number of humanist chaplains continues to grow — many of whom are women and people of color.Election to the office included a possible second of two one-year terms. Ultimately, however, I am thrilled to return, as of fall 2022, to the writing, research, and journalism I was most excited about before being nominated. Such opportunities were difficult to pursue while in the role, and I've found leadership roles are less important than the ability to do work that feels most right for me.

"Guided technologists to find their moral compass," (TED) by producing 38 articles totaling over 100,000 words, including 3 cover/lead stories for leading Silicon Valley technology publication. Stories included a 10,000+ word essay investigating the future of work; breaking national news on the Gig Economy in a news feature on an Uber/Lyft driver, as she helped launch a new protest movement; and an exclusive interview on "So You Want to Talk About Race in Tech," with #1 New York Times bestselling author Ijeoma Oluo, based on her book So You Want to Talk About Race. The Ethicist in Residence role ended earlier than planned due to the elimination of TechCrunch's freelance budget during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Raised over three million dollars in the past decade, to support the creation of the first ever "center for humanist life" on a college or university campus in North America. Role of ED was discontinued in early 2019, freeing up more time for me to work on my writing, speaking, research, and chaplaincy.
