I am responsible for the development of the company and the coordination of its strategic consultancy services and products, both in the UK and overseas. I have helped build several of our collaborative action research consortia and the specialist projects and programmes that have emerged from them. Right now, our research and our consultancy work is focusing on solutions for clients and partners with education, care, health, regeneration and economic turnaround challenges

Since 2003, I have coordinated the international ‘ActiveAge’ collaborative research program. This initiative, conceived in collaboration with Dr Joseph Coughlin, the founding director of MIT AgeLab, has been funded and promoted by a large and diverse consortia of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in the UK and the USA. Its singular purpose has been to consider the impact and opportunities of the aging demographic across society and the economy through the lenses of work, community, mobility and wellbeing.

Vitalocity! was conceived to help bring a multi-discipline, integrated approach to the design and development of age-friendly communities for developers and municipalities. Working alongside the leadership of founding partners and industry leaders Kisco Senior LIving, Ecumen and Kendal Corporation, BusinessLab helped to shape the business model for Vitalocity! and build a multi-disciplinary consortium of specialists. This has involved global players such as Sodexo, Nestle, Perkins Eastman and the WHO Age-friendly city of Newcastle upon Tyne. More recently, Vitalocity! has focused on approaches to global grand challenges such as social isolation and on embedding customised age-friendly principles into the metropolitan comprehensive planning process.

The remit of the board is to advise on all aspects of the Centre's activities which include drug discovery and development, translational research, industrial engagement and postgraduate teaching and training.

IIRP, a not for profit organisation based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, created the world's first graduate school devoted entirely to the teaching, research and dissemination of Restorative Practice - a field that is developing across national and disciplinary borders. I am privileged to work alongside a superb team of talented and motivated executives and trustees to assist the development of the Institute itself.

A specialist online contact centre, with operations in Scotland and England, helping those with social and health related challenges. I was one of three trustees who sold this charitable business to the management team, via a unique management buyout process, resulting in the birth of the £3million Essentia Foundation for which I became a founding trustee.

Glassbox, a strategic management boutique, specialised in the planning and delivery of major change initiatives for national and international government agencies and large corporates. For example, for FirstGroup, one of the largest ground transportation groups in Europe, we developed the brand, customer service programme and project managed the design implementation of all rolling stock. At Glassbox, I also developed and launched the highly successful 'Benchmark' brand - to deliver large scale management conferences on key strategic themes in partnership with industry and government. I left Glassbox after 6 years to create BusinessLab, a research-based consultancy focusing on major economic, business and societal trends and on the impact and application of digital technology.

Founding director and fund raiser (on a pro-bono basis) for Developing Strathclyde Limited which created the Glasgow Regeneration Fund. This was established to invest in enterprise in Glasgow's most severely socially and economically challenged areas. The target of £3million was reached in 2 years. Contributors included Body Shop International, Royal Bank of Scotland and BP. GRF now manages the new West of Scotland Fund.

In 1976, with Gordon Calder, I founded Format which grew into one of Scotland's leading corporate communications consultancies. With offices in Aberdeen and London, Format advised a number of leading multinationals in energy, finance, food, retail and construction and successfully delivered campaigns and programmes around the world. I left Format after 16 years to extend my experience beyond media and into strategic management.
