Rural Carriers, compile, sort, index customers, prepare parcels for delivery, gather mail (Letters and Flats) for over 500+ residential homes, and follow a set route each day. In addition, rural carriers forwarded mail, returned incorrectly addressed or unknown mail by defining and identifying false or incorrect addresses. In many cases, mail was corrected and delivered or forwarded as appropriate, even though the address was faulty. Parcels also are forwarded when proper Change of Address orders were on file. Volume was generally about 15-30 linear feed of mail per day with an average of 30-60 parcels daily. Distance was about 18 miles to and from the route.Mail items, include Letters of various classes and sortation levels, CD packets/photo packets, Magazines, Newspapers, and Flyers of advertisements, including odd shaped items, and Parcels including anything of mail able size. Average day was 8-9 hours, with the paid compensation about 90% of that time, between 7-8 hours average. FLSA was not reasonably followed by the USPS, but Union officials accepted this as a general flaw in the Rural Carrier system.
