Gregory Baer is Managing Director and General Counsel for Corporate and Regulatory Law at JP Morgan Chase. He supervises the company’s legal work with respect to financial reporting, global regulatory affairs, intellectual property, private equity and corporate M&A, and data protection and privacy. He sits on the company’s Firmwide Risk Committee, Capital Governance Committee, Investment Committee and Global Philanthropy Governance Committee.

Represented the company on enterprise-wide regulatory issues; public reporting and corporate merger and acquisition activities; and other issues, including public policy and marketing.

Mr. Baer previously served as a partner at Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale & Dorr and was co-head of its Financial Institutions Group. His practice included counseling on financial regulatory issues as well as defense of complex financial fraud cases before the Securities and Exchange Commission.While in private practice, Mr. Baer was named in the 2007-08 edition of Who’s Who in American Law; selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America from 2005-2007; named as one of the nation’s outstanding financial services attorneys in the 2006 edition of Chambers USA; and honored by Washingtonian magazine as one of the Best Lawyers in Washington.

From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Baer served as Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, after serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary from 1997 to 1999. He coordinated Treasury policy on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and led the development of presidential initiatives on financial privacy and consumer protection. He also focused on electronic commerce issues and cyber defense. He was awarded the Treasury Medal in 2001.

Mr. Baer was managing senior counsel at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he was engaged in a broad regulatory and legislative policy practice and directed special projects for the general counsel. He was awarded the Federal Reserve’s Special Achievement Award in 1996.
