Utilizing a proprietary gel blend and unique grid design, Purple products are known for providing support for its customers' bodies while gently cradling their pressure points.As the upstream Process Engineer at Purple, I am in charge of managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing the polymer mixing and molding processes that make Purple's famous Grid. Some of my duties include conducting experiments to increase production rate and creating dashboards to track meaningful KPIs.A few of my accomplishments are:-Coordinated facility’s first regular cross-functional team (SLEEP) to facilitate transparent communication across all departments with respect to Engineering projects. Manage project funnel through Jira, present project proposals to SLEEP teams biweekly.-Create dashboards, track meaningful KPIs over multiple areas to determine performance and improvement points. Identify knowledge gaps and create detailed Work Instructions, Operational Checklists, and Preventative Maintenance Checklists-Achieved cycle time improvement of 11%, increasing potential yearly profit by up to $1M/y, by developing series of experiments and analyzing results of various parameter modifications-Identified potential for mix process change to reduce monthly downtime occurrences by 90% over a 3 month period-Own and manage upstream manufacturing processes (polymer blending and molding). Bal Seal Engineering is a world-class custom spring and seal manufacturer, with products supporting all major engineering sectors: oil & gas, aerospace & defense, medical devices/electronics, industrial robots, analytical equipment, and more.As part of the R&D team at Bal Seal, I was in charge of developing new materials and optimizing current processes to maximize the performance of our springs and seals while maintaining or reducing production costs.A few of my responsibilities were as follows:-Provided materials technical support and generate ideas for R&D materials development and process improvement. Guided materials team to initiate, manage, and complete materials characterization and development projects, focused on PTFE, PEEK, UHMWPE, and metal materials.-Developed high volume/low cost material process, reducing molded PTFE material cost by 25%. -Generated all necessary procedures for process operation, maintenance, and safety and trained all applicable personnel-Led ISO audit CAPA team to improve molding pressure resolution by 40% and modify auxiliary documentation to improve product consistency-Developed material products from inception to Material Launch; oversaw and conducted verification testing-Generate 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings for prototype iterations through basic machining and 3D printing-Managed upkeep of R&D lab and stayed up to date with calibration and maintenance records-Built and maintained vendor relationships; evaluated and qualified their raw material/molded material products

As a Jr. Project Engineer in Bal Seal's R&D department, I was quickly familiarized with our products and testing protocols. I was in charge of many polymer-based materials characterization projects and had an entry level role in our patent analysis team.Some of my responsibilities were as follows:-Created test plans, performed and analyzed tribological tests for range of polymer materials-Screened, analyzed, and presented patents for competition analysis and future applications-Collaborate with the Quality Department to perform failure/root cause analyses and create results documentation used for internal records and/or publications/specifications.
