Under an Air Force Office of Scientific Research grant, tested and analyzed the surface tribochemical reactions of MoS2-based aerospace solid lubricants. Mechanical tests were conducted using an in-vacuo pin-on-disc tribometer. Changes to surface chemistry and microstructure were measured using an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) and an atomic force microscope (AFM).

Conducted mechanical testing of commercially available self-threading fasteners into aluminum alloy A380 and magnesium alloy AZ91D die-cast, net-shaped parts to evaluate the feasibility of implementing the manufacturing technology into the automotive production process. Responsibilities included setting up the test apparatus, gathering and analyzing data, and writing the operating instructions for the equipment. The end result concluded that the technology was indeed viable and could be implemented with the current generation of as-cast parts.
