Directs the daily workflow assigned to specific technical work section(s), including work assignments, assay and instrument troubleshooting and result review. Monitors the competency and performance of employees in providing diagnostic testing within the scope of the work section. Maintains appropriate levels of staffing and accurate scheduling to ensure department objectives are met. Trains and mentors department personnel to ensure a positive work environment focused on quality. Ensures that procedures and methods are performed according to section protocol, including quality control parameters and result reporting. Provides technical expertise in the use, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all laboratory instruments, equipment, reagents, and procedures. Performs routine and specialized procedures as necessary. Meets the objectives of ARUP Laboratories by maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency and economy. Maintains the department in an 'inspection ready' status with consistent review and process updates based on current regulatory requirements. Prepares annual budget and presents to budget committee, ensures budget goals are met throughout the fiscal year. Conducts monthly department staff meetings.

Programming, validation, maintenance and troubleshooting of automated pipetting systems (Tecan EVO200), gamma-counters (Perkin-Elmer), plate readers (Molecular Devices Versamax, Thermolabs Luminoskan, Tecan Safire 2), plate washers (Tecan), centrifuges, SPE barrels (Varian Vac Elut).
