I’m a senior federal agent, (criminal investigator) by profession, now a Program Manager (GS-14); however those titles alone can’t accurately convey the many transferable skills Postal Inspectors like myself acquire over a career as an LEO for a parent company which has real assets needing protection. First and foremost, Postal Inspectors are sworn law enforcement officers. Over my 22 year career, I have led several complex financial investigations which were brought to resolution with multiple arrests and convictions. I’ve had the privilege to lead a wide variety of investigations, including but not limited to financial crimes, burglaries, robberies, assaults, and administrative cases. However, I am also skilled in risk assessments and reviews pertaining to facility, personnel, operations, and transportation security. I’ve successfully coordinated and supervised large scale compliance audits involving multiple external partners, identifying potential breaches in security and recommending opportunities for improvements to mitigate risk based on best practices and regulations. Several of these audits were focused at airports and included reviews of airline operations and their contracted entities. I am a subject matter expert (SME) in the detection, investigation, and resolution of mailings involving dangerous goods (HAZWOPR trained) and, as the local leader for this nation-wide program, I led annual certification and worked extensively with external first responders on multiple emergency exercises. Along this same line, I routinely provided leadership and support as a key member within the incident command structure for several high-profile events. My special assignments have also given me a considerable understanding of mail flow and mail operation. What I’ve enjoyed so much about the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is the amount of independence given to agents to conduct their cases. I was also a member of our division’s threat management team (firearms instruction, weapons armoring, Active Shooter Response) for over 19 years and had the honor to be an instructor for new recruits at our academy. It was such a rewarding experience that I volunteered to be part of the steering committee for our academy’s instructional re-design where we devised a new curriculum. My new position offers me the challenge to take much of what I have learned to apply it to the global level now. Part of what I now do entails working with the UPU to help other countries with capacity building, and developing resources to be made available to them
