In 1995 Mr. Herriott introduced North America to cold pressed hempseed oil by creating Canada’s first hemp brand – HEMPOLA – a registered trademark for hemp products with distribution across Canada, North America and other parts of the world. After developing industry standards for cold pressing hemp oil in 1998, he invented hempseed flour in 1999 then HempWood™ wood finish in 2000. Mr. Herriott was involved in the industry stakeholder discussions, being instrumental in forming Health Canada’s Industrial Hemp Regulations in 1998.

In 2004, his work began on Flour Power™, with Oilseed Works Inc. as a working model. The company operates using its own biofuel; produced from its close-loop production of hemp foods and oils.In the mid-2000’s Mr. Herriott observed the early convergence of medical cannabis and industrial hemp. He acquired knowledge and experience in the propagation and production of medical cannabis under Health Canada’s MMAR program, which complimented the numerous years of experience in his vertically integrated hemp business – from hands-on farming of hemp, through product development, to managing distribution channels.After 20 years pioneering industrial hemp and 9 years in the medical cannabis space, Mr. Herriott was the nucleus in forming the founding partnership of Mettrum Ltd. Mettrum was formed in October 2012 and later became Canada’s third licensed producer of medical cannabis under the new Health Canada MMPR. In January 2017, Mettrum merged with Canopy Growth Corp., creating the world’s largest cannabis entity. Having spent 18 months as Senior Advisor-Hemp at Canopy, Greg is currently enjoying sabbatical, running his farm operation and examining a multitude of opportunities for HEMPOLA as the cannabis industry evolves.
