As staff engineer with Wildscape Engineering, I perform water resources engineering work including hydrologic assessments, hydraulic studies, watershed-scale restoration designs, stormwater drainage designs, ecological stream culvert replacement designs, water and sewer utility designs, and construction and industrial SWPPP development, implementation, and monitoring. In addition to water resources engineering, I provides expertise in wastewater treatment and reuse, solid waste management, land use and resource conservation, and whole systems development. My intention is to develop a branch of the company or a company of my own focused on engineering for sustainability and self-reliance in rural mountainous communities.

As the lead graduate research assistant on the research project entitled "Bioenergy Production from Municipal Solid Waste through Solid-State Anaerobic Digestion" (funded by the Hinkley Center for Solid and Hazardous Waste Management) some of the tasks that I completed include:  Designed and conducted bench- and pilot-scale research aiming to improve process efficiency in solid-state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD) of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW); directed the experimental research of two undergraduate students, one high school teacher, and one visiting doctoral student. Conducted novel research on the development of SS-AD for the recovery of energy and nutrients from OFMSW in the United States, prepared a database of existing and forthcoming SS-AD projects in the US, and reported trends in development, critical economic factors, and legislative considerations pertaining to SS-AD of OFMSW in the US to policymakers and industry professionals. Coordinating technical advisory group (TAG) meetings Authored quarterly reports and the final report for submission to the funding agency. Disseminated information via submission of articles on research findings to peer reviewed journals and delivery of multiple poster presentations and PowerPoint presentations.

As a waste management engineering and consulting assistant (unpaid), I have worked along side Dr. Stewart Oakley, a waste management engineer and consultant with 30+ years of teaching and consulting experience, and collaborated with a broad range of individuals and organizations from public, private, and academic sectors on numerous wastewater and solid waste management projects. The work accomplished in this position has resulted from a combination of academic and extracurricular volunteering efforts and includes: development of engineering designs and design feasibility studies, presentation of results to stakeholders in international settings, contribution to public awareness efforts, in field data acquisition and surveying, and additional research and report writing. It is likely that my partnership with Dr. Stewart Oakley will continue to yield opportunities to contribute to waste management engineering and consulting efforts around the world.

As a tutor at CSU, Chico I provided supplemental instruction and general mentorship to undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds in math, physics, and engineering subjects, participated in the College Reading and Learning Association Tutor Certification Program, and earned a Mastery Tutor Certification.
