Senior Advisor - Global Innovation Leadership Coach
CurrentAn innovator engaging and inspiring innovators to develop successful new products. As part of a dual senior advising role, providing coaching and mentoring for team leaders across the full portfolio of research & technology product development programs globally. Having led teams my entire career, I was excited when asked to head up the Team Leader Workshop (TLW), training super-smart scientists, engineers and business personnel from the top schools and industry on the "soft-skills" of influencing, both with and without formal authority. The TLW is a 3 day F2F or 4 half day virtual format with diverse experience XOM leaders from both business and technology, including case studies, and interactive learning games providing an experience more than a training. I developed and host Leader Forum Conferences (LFC) inviting experienced leaders from across the corporation to inspire alumni of the TLW. The LFC is a good way to help alumni refresh the skills learned in the workshop, network beyond their own organizations, and continue a career-long view of leadership development.I created and lead the Invention Workshop (IW) a 2 day F2F training /coaching of emerging innovators from across the corporation. Our team of 17 prolific XOM inventor coaches holds over 575 US granted patents and over 3000 global patent documents. Fast track development of curriculum in one years time via 3 progressive MPV pilot sessions...now has evolved to an established 2 full day workshop with interactive games, keynote, multiple speakers, panels, with ideation sessions partnering with business teams. I also serve as a facilitation ideation artist, assisting business and R&D teams to conduct successful sessions with a methodology which I developed, as well as a variety of other formats and tools. The focus is in-person or virtual interactions where diverse participant expertise can be leveraged to maximize the LIVE idea generation to yield top actionable new potential projects.
Research Guidance Associate
CurrentBusiness expertise embedded in R&D to bring early relevant commercial reality. As part of a dual senior advising role, providing valuation guidance for team leaders across the full portfolio of research & technology product development programs globally. I lead the New Product / Platform Development area (over 100 programs), training colleagues to assist, and tutoring business and marketing developers in economics and valuation. Guidance includes assistance to calculate Net Present Value (NPV), with dynamic MonteCarlo business market scenario analysis to ensure consistency across the corporate R&D portfolio. I also advise on strategic portfolio management for new product development programs and support multi-billion $ corporate wide annual business planning. After the retirement of 2 marketing executives, I assumed the chairperson role leading the Commercial "Cold Eyes" Reviews (CCERs), establishing a team of 15 senior commercial experts, orchestration, recruiting panelists, and serving as facilitator and panelists myself. The reviews are performed at critical stages where an unbiased expert view in "shark tank" style (or actually more like a "friendly dolphin tank") as the panel is fully here to help provide guidance to better articulate their stories to key decision makers and improve the chance of commercial success of the products or technologies they are developing. I'm passionate to help coach and mentor new panelists and assist the business in running efficient and impactful reviews, making recommendations to the teams. We conduct 10-15 major program CCER reviews per year.
