An expert in nutrient management, water quality, and science communication with over a decade of experience in the field, I currently work as an Agricultural Water Quality Specialist for Olmsted County Soil & Water Conservation District. In this role, I meet one-on-one with farmers within an 11-county region of Minnesota as part of a state-sponsored Water Quality Certification program. I look over their farm operation, evaluate the risks to water quality posed by their nutrient, water, soil, and pesticide management practices, and come up with field- and farm-specific recommendations that will improve water quality as part of this certification process. In past roles, I have served as a technical expert on farm nutrient management and its impact on water quality for a statewide regulatory program/process, a liaison between University researchers and state agencies on issues of nutrient management/water quality, served as a technical expert on the impacts of climate change on agriculture, and managed on-farm research programs. My work passions are low-cost/precision conservation and communicating complex scientific information to a wide range of audiences.
