Gregory Macneil, Phd Email and Phone Number
PhD in chemistry with a demonstrated history of competitive academic and industrial research. Skilled in anticancer drug design, polymer nanoparticle formulation, organometallics, organic synthesis, and various analytical techniques including NMR, mass spectrometry, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Passionate in tying my research together with volunteerism and the outdoors through the Terry Fox Treks and the Terry Fox Foundation. Phd CandidateSimon Fraser University May 2017 - Aug 2023Vancouver, Bc, CanadaSynthesis, characterization, and biological testing of various metal-based anticancer drug systems. A focus on using magnetic resonance as a tool for studying these systems in complex biological environments. I operate a Bruker EMX plus EPR spectrometer (X- and Q-Band, ENDOR) and have extensive experience with a Bruker Avance III_solid 400 MHz spectrometer for 1H and 19F MRI studies. Much of my work also involves the use of 400, 500, and 600 MHz (cryoprobe) spectrometers controlled with TopSpin for both 1- and 2-dimensional 1H, 19F, and 31P NMR experiments. I carry out data manipulation in MestReNova and using custom programs I wrote in MATLAB. More recently I have been exploring the use of polymer nanoparticles to encapsulate fluorinated ruthenium anticancer complexes and the resulting affects of encapsulation on the 19F magnetic resonance properties. Furthermore, I have been investigating the interactions of a paramagnetic Copper anticancer drug (Cas III-ia: Phase I clinical trials) with biological media via X- and Q-band EPR and ENDOR (EPR detected NMR). -
Student ResearchMount Allison University May 2014 - May 2016Homogeneous catalysis with novel organometallic complexes. Duties included synthesis, characterization, catalysis - all under an inert atmosphere in a mBraun glovebox. The work conducted went towards potential publications and toward a thesis on the reduction of carbonyls, thiocarbonyls, and imines in partial fulfillment of the requirements for an honors degree. -
