I started my IT career with the U.S. Army in October 2008 with the Signal Corps in Fort Gordon, GA. I moved on to Fort Lewis, WA where I was promoted to Sergeant and gained some experience with the Satellite Transportable Terminal (STT) and the associated switches, laptops, and VoIP phones using Cisco Call Manager Express. During that time, I attended Bates Technical College in Tacoma, where I got Cisco CCENT certified along with my CompTIA A+ certification. After 4 1/2 years on active duty, I decided it was time to start my civilian career in IT. My first job was at CenturyLink in Gardner, KS as an Operations Technician I in April 2013. We had a great team of friendly people who really knew their job. I am very thankful for my experience there. We performed troubleshooting on T1's and later moved to VoIP repair on Alcatel routers. I was able to see networking from the ISP's standpoint. However, I found a home at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in August 2015 as a Network Administrator. I am so incredibly thankful for that job! I was able to challenge myself to a whole new level by completely redesigning the network infrastructure across 3 sites using a collapsed core architecture with Cisco Nexus 9k switches. I have such a wide variety of work that I can do that it rarely ever becomes boring. I've learned so much about ASA firewalls, VPN's, server infrastructure, VMware, and far too many other things to count. I have since retired from the Kansas National Guard and am now working for LightEdge Solutions, a datacenter based out of Des Moines, Iowa, with datacenters around the country, including one in Kansas City, MO and one in Lenexa, Kansas. They are a great company to work for and a lot of friendly, hardworking people that are experts and professionals. I feel very blessed to work here.
