"Wins and losses come a dime a dozen. But effort? Nobody can judge that. Because effort is between you and you.” – Ray Lewis – this lesson really hit home for me in law school. While being up against deadlines for multiple assignments for law review and classes, I learned through practice that consistent effort yields the best results. From my first internship during college with community organizers of Durham CAN to my current position as a law clerk to Justice Michael R. Morgan at the North Carolina Supreme Court, I have strived to be the best version of myself. Several values have crystallized for me as my path unfolded over the years. I am a team player that is energized by helping others around me grow and succeed. I am organized, and when needed I will go the extra mile to get assignments done. I care about my work product and view it as a reflection of myself. Where possible, I strive to be creative and spice up repetitive task. As a law clerk, I have honed research, writing and analytical skills. I can break down complex subject matter into understandable bits of information. I can have experience presenting legal information to lawyers and lay people alike. What’s more, I have developed the ability to produce quality work under time constraints. In addition, I am proud of a few career-related accomplishments. I have kept the workload of unfinished assignments to a minimum during both of my clerkships. I have assisted our team at the Supreme Court with building a system, from scratch, to effectively review petitions from the Court of Appeals, supervise interns, draft memos to prepare Justice Morgan for court and assist with drafting opinions. I have also taken the lead on cases of first impression at both courts. Thank you for your time.
