Mr. Nelson brings more than 31 years of regulatory and financial industry experience. Most recently, he served for five years at Wachovia in numerous leadership roles, including Mortgage Risk Executive. Mr. Nelson also served as the Credit and Operations Manager of Structured Transactions and Analytical Research (STAR) in Wachovia Treasury, assisting in Wachovia’s preparation for implementation of the Basel II capital regulation. Mr. Nelson served 21 years as a commissioned National Bank Examiner in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). He led and participated in bank examinations throughout the U.S. and gained extensive experience in problem bank supervision activities, including failed banks and savings and loans. He was assigned to the OCC’s Large Bank Supervision Program, with special emphasis on mortgage banking, retail credit, capital markets, and commercial lending. Mr. Nelson served as a national resource and traveled throughout the country at the request of OCC senior management on challenging bank examinations in a leadership role. His experience included an extended assignment with the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) after a large thrift with highly complex manufactured housing loan and securitization activities was placed in receivership. Mr. Nelson also co-authored the OCC's Handbook for Mortgage Banking Activities.
