Unfortunately, the machines used in the treatment breakdown frequently in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) due to the challenging environments.Under the supervision of Dr. Suzie Sheehy and Dr. Brendan Whelan, and in collaboration with Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, I will look at ways to simplify and improve the current generation of Radiotherapy Linear Accelerators (LINACs) to reduce downtime in LMICs. The project involves a worldwide collaboration between academia and industry with philanthropic backing.In this role, I:- Conducted in-depth analysis on cancer care technology in Low- and Middle-Income Countries with a focus on delivering robust and reliable radiotherapy by innovating novel prototypes and evaluating the current paradigm of radiation treatment, resulting in a published paper with over 1000 views.- Designed and executed experiments involving analysis of reliability and breakdown data to determine trends and causes, modelling unorthodox electron beam dynamics through a LINAC and bremsstrahlung target and simulating and analysing over 150 VMAT treatment plans.- Analysed and interpreted complex data sets using python, SQL, MATLAB and present using interactive dashboards, similar to PowerBI, contributing to the understanding of dosimetry and reliability engineering within medical physics.- Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams within reliability engineering, radiation physics, accelerator and detector physics and medical physics including institutions such as Oxford University, Universitas Indonesia and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, providing analytical support.- Presented research findings on innovative technologies at numerous conferences including AFAD ’23, ESPM ’22, AIP ’22, IPAC ’21, IPAC ’20, AIP ’19.
