Lead a Team of Work Health Safety (WHS) and Injury Management (Rehabilitation) Specialists in the provision of:• WHS services in relation to supporting the AFP’s duty of care obligations under the Work Health Safety Act 2011 and the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998; and• Rehabilitation services in relation to the AFPs obligations as a Rehabilitation Authority for compensable injuries under the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988.I am the AFP’s representative on the:• ANZ Policing Advisory Agency Safety and Wellbeing Working Group; and• Inter-Departmental Committee Working Group on Ebola Border Measures.I also chair the AFP’s Dealing with Explicit Material Working Group.

Director Claims Management - Led a group of 40 people responsible for the ongoing management of accepted claims for workers’ compensation. I also had responsibility for the relationship management function (Employer Relationship Coordination Team) of premium paying customers in the Comcare Scheme.Director - Investigations & Enforcement - I managed and led a team of 50 investigation staff across Australia located in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney with a budget allocation of $7.5m. My primary responsibility was the development and implementation of an annual investigation program to assess compliance with the then Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991. I also oversaw enforcement action including statutory enforcement, civil proceedings and criminal prosecution for failures to comply with OHS legislation.

Working in Centrelink’s National Support Office in the People Management Team, I performed two roles. First, as National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager developing and implementing Centrelink’s National OHS Program, National OHS Policy and Guidelines for its then 24,000 staff, and second, as an operational Work Environment Unit Manager providing OHS, counseling, workplace diversity, occupational rehabilitation and workers’ compensation services to 2,200 National Office staff.As National OHS Manager I was responsible for managing a number of national people management projects covering policy development in areas of OHS prevention/early intervention, Health and Safety Representative Training, rehabilitation case management and workers' compensation premium management. A primary function of this role was the development and implementation of National OHS Policy and coordinating the activities of 16 Area Office OHS Officers across Australia in the implementation of Centrelink’s OHS Program. Specific projects undertaken my me during this time were research into the incidence of occupational stress and research to develop and implement a best practice approach to preventing and managing customer aggression. Both these projects were joint Centrelink/Comcare funded initiatives.

My primary role was in the development of common approaches to prevention of occupational injury. I was the Project Officer responsible for developing Comcare's National Quality of Working Life (Occupational Stress) Strategy. An outcome of this Strategy was the development and publication of a series of three manuals covering approaches to the 'way work is organised' and the 'way people are managed'. This approach differed from most interventions which have traditionally focused on assisting individuals to cope with stress rather than stress prevention. I was also the Project Officer for developing Comcare's National Manual Handling Strategy. Major outcomes of the project were a pilot prevention program targeting occupational overuse syndrome in the National Office of the Australian Taxation Office and the development of a risk management model which was applied in a case study at Note Printing Australia.

In this role, I undertook the development of industry specific OHS information and national strategies for injury prevention. Major projects included: development of Worksafe's National Strategy For The Prevention Of Occupational Noise Induced Hearing Loss; development of an information book on Occupational Cancer targeting OHS professionals and union representatives; development of a draft Code of Practice for OHS in the Stevedoring and Shipbuilding Industry; and implementation of Worksafe's National Farm Safety Strategy. During my time at Worksafe, I worked on many joint industry/government research projects such as Improving OHS performance in the Printing Industry and developing a national standard for the acceptable level of water soluble chromates in Australian cement to reduce the incidence of dermatological conditions among construction workers. I was also an information officer on Worksafe's telephone information/referral service.
