I've been writing as long as I can remember - professionally since age 14, when I got my first job as a writer for the arts and news monthly in the resort town where I lived. I've always been a bit of a creative self-starter: the summer before, I taught myself BASIC and took a class at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, where I used their advanced hardware to design and write my own text-based adventure game. I won the Alabama Penman Fiction Award in my school the following year, and was active in journalism and writing in high school (where I attended a Journalism Workshop at Auburn University) and at the University of Alabama. The summer following my first year at college I completed an internship at a daily newspaper. When my family moved to Florida in 1990, I worked as an advertising and marketing consultant at a major medical supply company, helping to launch and promote several in-house products. My interest in art and music led me to begin publishing my own music 'zine in 1993. I taught myself to work a sound system and then how to record music with the help of a professional engineer and my own interest in 4-tracks and digital hardware. I learned to manage bands, and my own won second place in the 1996 Real Radio New Talent contest. We were included on the Realapalooza CD the same year, where we continued to turn heads when the engineer was unaware we had not recorded our material in a professional studio. I continued to release music and write for music and arts magazines until 2000, when I returned to college at Daytona State and the University of Central Florida in Daytona. I published a book of poetry and begin working online more, and in 2005 I was offered a job by Southern News and returned to Alabama. I wrote for two daily and one monthly newspapers while I was there. I started a multimedia project design studio in 2009, and moved to the Appalachian foothills in 2016 where I am working on my first novel and helping design a board game.
