I retired in February this 2014 after a 34 year career split between the London ambulance Service 1979 -1990 and The London Fire Brigade 1990 - 2014.Since retiring and completing all planned travels and a few unplanned. I have become the project manager of the renovation of a rundown bungalow my wife lynne and I bought as our new home.I have successfully negotiated contracts with suppliers and members of the building trade including liaising with local structural engineers and building inspectors ensuring all work carried out complied with current legislation.I source materials from reputable suppliers negotiating the best price possible and ensuring delivery/collection to site is not only on time but with enough leeway for damaged materials and shortfalls to be replaced.I have ensured a cost effective and ethical system for disposal of unneeded and/or waste materials through recycling or the use properly managed disposal sites.Transport/delivery & collection costs have been kept to a minimum by using my own vehicle(s) wherever possible.Although not the skill set I had intended for myself I have learnt and achieved a great deal from the experience, and the confidence to oversee such projects in the future.I am interested in the coffee industry and would like to train as a Barista to increase the knowledge I have already gained and serve people in a more social atmosphere than my previous career.My interest in Jazz and visit to New Orleans has transformed from a listener to a player, a legend in my own sitting room, and best left locked in there. I now work for Harris + Hoole in Amersham where I am training as a barista and enjoying learning new skills.After an enjoyable time at Harris + Hoole I am now enjoying a more relaxed time unless the right opportunity arises.
