Sr. Thermal Engineer Iv

Roccor, Llc

Longmont, CO

  • Designed and built a 2-phased, flow boiling test bench used for cooling high heat flux laser diodes using Novec (HFE) 7000 dielectric, heat transfer fluid
  • Used SolidWorks to design 2-phased, micro-channel coolers for laser diodes that operate at heat flux levels of 150W/cm2
  • Designed, prototyped, tested and analyzed R&D thermal management components such as flat heat pipes, heat spreaders and solid-liquid, phase change storage for aero-space applications
  • Instrumented and programed custom, laboratory, experiments for safe, automated operation and data acquisition.
  • Expanded the company’s laboratory testing infrastructure, tooling and prototyping capabilities
  • Developed vendor relationships for our R&D supply chain of goods and fabrication services
Feb 2016 - Jun 2019

Mechanical Engineer

Lakewood, CO

  • I performed time-lapse image acquisition of the solar reflection from a 2-axis tracking heliostat. Hundreds of time-lapse images were post-processed using a custom Matlab script to characterize the heliostat’s tracking.
  • Performed testing at Sandia National Laboratory’s, Molten Salt Test Laboratory to qualify the next generation of industrial piping hardware that utilized molten nitrate salts as a high temperature (550C) heat transfer.
  • I designed, built, instrumented, and analyzed bench-top heat transfer experiments for phase change, thermal energy storage systems research. The test results were used in the predictive validation of computer models.
  • Managed third party laboratories that tested the thermophysical properties of potential molten salt phase change materials used in solar power plant storage
  • Installed instrumentation and a data acquisition system in a working solar field to monitored wind loaded forces imposed on solar collector structures and foundations
  • Performed optical tests of parabolic mirror facets to characterize the reflective accuracy
Apr 2007 - Dec 2015

Graduate Research Assistant

Golden, CO

  • Designed, built and instrumented multiple experimental solar thermosyphon hot water systems for side-by-side performance testing
  • Reduced and analyzed the experimental data to determine the solar thermal system performances
  • Modified and validated an analytical TRNSYS model to accurately predict the long-term performance of solar thermosyphon hot water systems for Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) ratings
May 2004 - Apr 2007

Test Engineer
