Mr. Smit is the senior project management consultant for the real estate development, construction and project section of Capital Steps. Mr. Smit advises local, regional and international clients on project strategy and process managing issues and offers hands-on management on consulting and interim projects. Mr. Smit was most recently engaged in the construction of the Flagship for the Al Futtaim Group with overall responsibility for the leadership and strategic direction, tactical planning and daily operational supervision of construction and project management of the AED 3 Billion Festival City Development, one of the world's largest retail developments in the UAE. Mr. Smit's mandate was initially the infrastructure & landscaping on the overall development prior to the commencement of Dubai Festival Shopping Centre. Mr Smit's mandate was then as a Senior Project Manager co-ordinating and controlling the contract from the developer/client side dealing directly with the consultants, contractor and sub contractors to ensure the quality and standards were met in accordance with the client's requirements. Mr Smit's responsibilities included but not limited to design management, review & approval of drawings, co-ordination of consultants - architectural/structural/MEP, cost control/tender & claim review, executive reports, chairing meetings, quality control, safety management, site inspections and program evaluation/review.In addition to Mr Smit's role towards the end of the project he was responsible with his team of managers to ensure all the tenants requirements were met for timeous opening of stores.

Prior to Al Futtaim, Mr. Smit was responsible for planning, directing, managing, co-ordinating and expediting the execution of multiple building projects related to Building and Construction Development through Civil Engineering Teams within cost, schedule and contract limitations while ensuring total satisfaction. He reported directly to the Construction Director and managed a team of 50 professionals with a delegated team of five staff members.

Prior to Newpleiad, Mr. Smit helped to establish and acted as Managing Director to a new Contracting Company, providing highly strategic and tactical leadership with annual projects value of R 1,0 Million in. Mr. Smit managed a team of 50 and exercised full financial and commercial responsibility for the company's operations.

Prior to Midrand, Mr. Smit directed and supervised Contractors responsible for planning and execution of major civil engineering projects related to new, upgrade, rebuilding and maintenance projects in South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland. He directly supervised a small team of three professionals and reported to the International Projects Co-Ordinator at the Engen Head Office.
