About Gregory Valentin

I'm a full stack engineer working day to day in React, Svelte, and Node.js. Recently I've been a contributor at OSLabs, working on a Svelte debugging dev tool name SvelteScope. Additionally, I was invited to attend a TechTalk event in Manhattan to give my thoughts on "Alternative Frontend Frameworks". Whenever I'm not coding I love producing electronic tunes on my laptop and hunting for the freshest pow to ski down.Find me on Github @punkygreg! (https://github.com/punkygreg)

    - Led the development of a component visualizer and debugging tool designed to bridge a gap within Svelte’s array of developer tools in order to make the platform more competitive with other state management libraries.- Used Svelte with Typescript to structure the frontend of the extension, leveraging its ability to compile to native JS with ESM support without the need of a virtual DOM, which made it more efficient to build and incorporate user facing components, leading to faster load times.- Utilized Svelte’s built-in store to centralize information, facilitating versioning and enabling efficient data manipulation, while serving as the primary conduit for data exchange between application components and the extension, promoting code organization and maintainability.- Migrated code to Vis.js from D3 library to create a hierarchical component tree that binds node and edge datasets to reactive Svelte stores allowing developers to interact with the tree while effectively removing bugs presented by the D3 library.- Leveraged the Chrome Runtime API to implement background functionality within the extension and take load off the main execution thread of the browser, utilizing script injection to allow the user to dynamically modify the app’s DOM through content scripts.- Introduced a mediator-based messaging queue facilitating communication between the developer tool and the analyzed browser DOM to address inherent isolation of content scripts, enabling users to alter specific component props within the Editor panel.- Incorporated Rollup’s Svelte-specific tree shaking capability and seamless module syntax to optimize the bundling process, enhancing overall performance with a reduced file size of 229 KB from 4.8 MB.
