I worked with staff scientists, post-doctorate candidates, and graduate students with the PowerFlux algorithm in the search for continuous gravitational waves from spinning neutron stars. These searches achieve high sensitivity by integrating long stretches of data and have been limited by computational speed. Prior search methods preserved sine wave phase information over many months of observation (known as "coherent searches") at the expense of high computational cost, or ignored that information over long periods in order to search over trillions of frequencies and sky locations with less sensitivity (and less computational cost). My work involved injections to test the robustness of the PowerFlux algorithm to continuous gravitational wave signals of nonstandard form using these methods as well as a "middle of the road" approach involving a Linux-based "loosely coherent" search algorithms.

I worked with LIGO staff to initiate the design of a new seismometer for studying seismic and Newtonian noise. This seismometer may help mitigate limitations on future generations of gravitational wave detectors due to this noise.
