According to Cybersecurity Ventures’ 2022 Cybercrime Report, the cost of cybercrime is predicted to reach $10.5 trillion by 2025, and it will only continue to rise unless cybersecurity specialists step up to protect both businesses and people.I have been nurturing an interest in both the technical and social engineering side of cybersecurity ever since I participated in the NSA-sponsored “GenCyber” camp as a seventeen-year-old. This led to me attending the University of Texas at Dallas to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, as well as finding a job in the field.As a Digital Forensic Analyst at Third Chair Investigations, I gained experience in combatting bad actors by using my skills to understand and counteract their methods as well as a deeper understanding of how victims get exploited. During my time there, I honed a variety of skills, including problem-solving, teamwork and leadership, effective interpersonal communication, and technical skills, such as developing automation for in-office processes to increase productivity. Additionally, I obtained my Private Security License, making me a licensed Private Investigator and able to participate in investigations as both an auxiliary and lead investigator. One of the most interesting and informative jobs I led at Third Chair was working on a BEC (business email compromise) case from start to finish. This experience showed me how much good I can do both on a professional and personal level for the world around me and inspired me to pursue cyber security with renewed vigor.
