The main mission of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and Freedom Schools six-to-eight week summer program is to ensure every child has a well-rounded start in life and provide enrichment through an engaging and high quality curriculum. The responsibilities of SLIs' included designing and implementing lesson plans (although guidelines are outlined and provided by CDF), supervising and maintaining safety of students at all times, serve as a positive role model and engage students during lunch and recess, server as Harambee leaders, afternoon activities facilitators, and collaborate and partner with other staff members to establish and maintain a supportive and structured environment for the students entrusted in our care and to provide proper planning and implementation of National Day of Social Action and additional enrichment activities. Additional responsibilities include adapting to constantly changing working conditions and procedures due to Covid-19 to ensure the safety of students and staff members.

Working at Mitsuwa Marketplace gave me a great opportunity to utilize my Japanese language skills, to work in a Japanese business environment, and to provide me challenging and difficult tasks. The job was very much a pleasant experience as the work environment was very friendly and staff and managers were very nice and enjoyable to be around.

The programs offered at Mad Science operate in various types of locations in Dallas-Ft. Worth such as Schools, Recreation Centers, and other various types of locations with such programs including Workshops, After-School Programs, Summer Camps, Birthday Parties and Events. These programs are able to operate with the use of kits, which can consist of apparatuses, (safe) chemicals and manuals needed to conduct lessons and engage students. The programs offered at Mad Science consist of topics ranging from Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Earth and Brain sciences. It is the responsibility of Mad Science Instructors to be able to conduct these programs offered in a safe and enjoyable manner and are accountable for acquiring, managing, and safely returning the kits given to instructors.
