I am a highly successful CEO and former US Navy Lieutenant (Surface Warfare / Nuclear Power) from the new materials and industrial spaces including EV, photovoltaics and other electrification applications.As CEO of GT Advanced Technologies, I conceived and executed a 5+ year business strategy to reposition the company from a low-margin equipment concern to a fast-growing materials manufacturer, and then sold the firm for a 1,200% ROI. I rapidly scaled the company from scratch and raised $65 million to build and expand a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. I developed a team with 50% women and 20% minorities and achieved 2% attrition over 5 years. I collaborated with the Board and oversaw the company sale process, managing core internal teams, internal / external counsel and multiple regulatory bodies. As the CTO of Equity Solar, a chemical company with products designed to improve silicon performance of PV cells, I oversaw and implemented the company’s technology strategy. I transitioned their technology from an angel-backed, lab-scale to a fully validated product in a short period. I have consulted for multiple companies both private and public. In one instance I provided strategic advice on technical matters including application and industry-specific solutions. I also advised them on an internal venture fund for strategic external investments. Hardinge Inc. was in a highly distressed situation with very low available liquidity and an untenable debt position with commercial lenders.* In 14 months, executed and completed a complex restructuring of the business with the valuable machine tool assets of Hardinge Inc. emerging into a new entity doing business as Kellenberger.Execution:* Engagements: Working with the Board of Directors, engaged the necessary professionals to devise and execute a plan to save and restructure Hardinge Inc. Team was comprised of restructuring advisors, legal counsel, independent director and chief restructuring officer.* Debt Sale: Ran an intensive process with 100+ financial firms evaluating the opportunity, culminating in the sale of the commercial bank debt to Centre Lane Partners.* Chapter 11 Restructuring: Filed for Chapter 11 protection in a 10-day rapid filing to facilitate the sale of substantially all the assets through a Section 363 process. While the US business was in Chapter 11, the remaining foreign entities were stabilized through tight cash management controls of the available DIP financing and remained out of the bankruptcy process. The core valuable global assets of the machine tool business were purchased by Centre Lane Partners and emerged from Chapter 11 in just 43 days. -
