I am an urban data scientist (and wrangler of data scientists) at the University of Delaware's Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, Department of Physics and Astronomy, and Data Science Institute. As Director of the "Urban Observatory" (UO; http://MUONetwork.org) – a multi-institutional facility for the observational study of cities as complex systems that we first developed at New York University's Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) – I apply data analysis techniques from astronomy, computer vision, and machine learning to images of city skylines to study air quality, energy consumption, lighting technology, public health, and sustainability.In addition to the above imaging work, I manage projects related to mobility patterns in cities, equitable distribution of greenspaces, predictive modeling of energy consumption, mapping long timescale economic trends across the city, and surrogate measures for traffic safety.My work has been featured on the cover of the Wall Street Journal as well as in Crain's New York Business, FastCompany, Technical.ly/Brooklyn, and the New York Times.
