Nadeau assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Administrator in December of 2013. Nadeau was subsequently and unanimously recommended to the U.S. Senate by the Environment and Public Works Committee, and confirmed.As Administrator, he was responsible for overall administration and leadership of the FHWA and the $42 billion Federal Aid Highway Program. Significant time and attention was also applied to the implementation of Administration policy direction and the Secretary of Transportation’s policy priorities. Examples of FHWA support of priorities: Highway, bike and pedestrian safety, transportation sector workforce development, reconnecting communities and other components of Secretary Anthony Foxx's Ladders of Opportunity initiatives. EDC is the FHWA "Innovation Partnership with the States" which is designed to address highway safety and shortening project delivery time by accelerating the rapid deployment of technology and process innovation using a state based model. Partnering with FHWA teams across the nation on the implementation of EDC are state DOT and local partners, as well as stakeholders in the private and non-profit transportation sectors. A key highway transportation innovation network has emerged from this initiative made up of State Transportation Innovation Councils. (STICS) Every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, have established a chartered STIC, led by the State DOT CEO's and the states FHWA Division Administrators. STICS are helping to lead their states and localities in the evolution of a continuous culture of innovation with their multi-modal partners, including the private sector and academia. The "AASHTO Innovation Initiative" will serve to strenghthen AASHTO's leadership role in EDC.The Deputy Administrator served on the USDOT Freight Policy Council from its inception. It was created by Secretary Ray LaHood in September 2012 and was continued under Secretary Anthony Foxx. The purpose of the Council was to oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of MAP-21. Members of the Council also assisted in the development of FAST Act freight programs and policy provisions, including the development of the "Beyond Traffic 2045 National Freight Strategy Framework" to support the development of the final strategy due to Congress in 2017. The Council also, at the request of the Chair, made recommendations to the Secretary regarding freight policy issues. Show less
