Serves as a military advisor in the Office of Security Negotiations and Agreements (PM/SNA), supporting its global mission to strengthen the nation's security partnerships. Responsible for coordinating the negotiation of international agreements to facilitate the deployment and movement of U.S. forces and materiel abroad and provide legal protections for U.S. service members operating overseas.Synchronizes the U.S. Government's negotiation of status of forces agreements (SOFA), defense cooperation agreements (DCA), cost-sharing special measures agreements (SMA), facilities access agreements, transit and overflight arrangements, and state flights agreements. Coordinates policy reviews and approvals for logistics agreements, such as acquisition and cross servicing agreements (ACSA), which are normally negotiated by the Department of Defense. Drafts cables, diplomatic notes, action memorandums, international agreements, and information papers in support of the Circular 175 Procedure (C-175), the State Department’s internal process for negotiating and concluding international agreements.Coordinates with the National Security Council, Office of the Secretary of Defense, DoD's Office of General Counsel, the Joint Staff, State’s regional bureaus, State’s Office of the Legal Adviser, U.S. Embassies, and the geographic Combatant Commands to integrate a whole-of-government approach to security negotiations.

Covers political-military affairs in Office of Afghanistan Affairs, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, U.S. Department of State. Responsible for providing policy advice on political-military issues related to Afghanistan. Represents the Department of State in interagency deliberations and coordination with a particular focus on counter-terrorism operations, regional security issues, air and ground lines of communication, hostages, international funding, and NATO force generation. Drafts information papers, meeting agendas, plans, and talking points to inform and advise on Afghanistan policy at the interagency level. Coordinates with the National Security Council, Department of Defense, and intelligence community on diplomatic engagements in support of the South Asia strategy. Liaises with elements of Joint Special operations Command on counterterrorism matters. Produces research papers and other materials to prepare for confirmation hearings and other departmental testimony to Congress on matters pertaining to Afghanistan. Works with the intelligence community to monitor and track the actions of the Taliban, Haqqani Network, ISIS-Khorasan, Al Qaeda, and other groups as well as government control of territory at the district level. Provides periodic updates for family members of U.S. citizens held hostage in South Asia as part of an interagency briefing team.

Executive Officer and second in command of a Stryker Cavalry Squadron deployed to Afghanistan. Serves as the principal assistant to the Squadron Commander and assumes command in his absence. Oversees maintenance for a fleet that includes 58 Strykers and 64 support vehicles. Responsible for directing the execution of staff tasks, coordinating the efforts of staff members and for ensuring staff proficiency and administrative discipline. Principal integrator of CSS in support of maneuver. Responsible for all aspects of logistics to include supply operations and accountability, maintenance management and administration. Manages assets worth more than $100 million dollars and an annual budget in excess of $5 million dollars. As part of TF Anvil, serves as an advisor to the Afghan National Army 203rd Corps G3 in Southeastern Afghanistan and synchronizes the efforts of a Military Advisor Team consisting of 37 advisors, 63 Guardian Angels, 14 trainers, and 6 contractors.

Operations officer for a 425 Soldier Stryker Reconnaissance Squadron capable of worldwide deployment in support of contingency operations. Manages operations; drafts and prepares operations orders, warning orders and fragmentary orders. Maneuvers with the mobile command group. Mentors and develops 9 subordinate officers, 10 NCOs, and 4 enlisted personnel.

Senior advisor for a 900-man, full time, Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) mechanized infantry battalion comprised of three infantry companies, a battalion headquarters company, a combat support company, a mortar platoon, and a reconnaissance platoon. Managed part of a $350 million foreign military sales contract with the Government of Saudi Arabia for variety of light armored vehicles and associated equipment, parts, training, and logistical support. Assisted the King Abdulaziz Mechanized Brigade in the modernization and upgrade to the LAV-25 family of vehicles, and integrated contracted training support from Vinnell Arabia with the unit’s long range training plan. Advised the unit on LAV gunnery training and brigade/battalion-level operations and staff functions.

Facilitates development of the FY 13 Mission Command Capabilities Based Assessment (MC-CBA) and Degraded Space DOTMLPF Review. Provides detailed analysis and recommendations for the determination of requirements within the Mission Command war fighting function and the development of short and long term solutions for unified land operations in an environment with degraded or denied space-based capabilities.

Responsible for combat readiness, discipline, METL development, training, morale and welfare of 186 paratroopers and $23,371,179 worth of automations, vehicles, and equipment. Vehicular component consists of 107 trucks and trailers. The personnel consists of a headquarters staff, a medical section, a security section, a military police platoon, support platoon, and CBRN reconnaissance platoon. Facilitates execution of the Battalion's operations and the employment of the administrative/logistical assets and commands battalion's field trains; oversees law enforcement activities and CBRN reconnaissance assets for the BCT; advises the battalion commander on employment of logistic, maintenance and medical sections; directs maintenance assets in support of combat operations, civil-military construction, and stability and support ops. Commands "team secure" during airborne assault, securing the Field Landing Strip (FLS) in Airfield Seizure/Forcible Entry operations.

Troop Commander for an airborne mounted ground Cavalry Troop capable of no-notice worldwide deployment by parachute assault. Responsible for the combat readiness, discipline, and fitness of the Troop; consisting of three scout platoons, a headquarters section, a mortar section, and 25 vehicles with supporting equipment valued at $25,678,704. Deployed to the Joint Readiness Training Center in 2010 and assumed the Global Response Force mission.

Responsible for integrating and synchronizing Joint and Combined assets and coordinating with various Coalition units, higher headquarters, and other governmental agencies. Overall responsible for developing and writing BCT level operational plans; operations order production; backbriefs for the Division Command Group on BCT and Battalion level plans; production and briefing of command briefs to VIPs; responsible for updating the BCT’s standard operating procedures. Produced deployment and redeployment orders, security transition plans, base closure timelines, and annual training plan.

Responsible for maintenance, accountability, and tactical employment of 6 M1114 Scout HMMWVs and associated equipment valued in excess of 4 million dollars. Responsible for the training, morale, health, welfare, and professional development of 18 Soldiers and NCOs. Additionally responsible for the Troop’s arms room and movement plan. Conducted reconnaissance and security operations in the 3rd Brigade area of operations. Escorted 3rd Infantry Division convoys from Baghdad to Kuwait and 4th Infantry Division convoys from Kuwait to Baghdad. Redeployed the troop to home station.

Directly responsible for the training of 4 tank crews to rapidly deploy and fight to accomplish the platoon’s mission in combat. Responsible for maintaining the readiness and accountability of 4 M1A1 tanks and associated equipment valued at over $11 million. Conducted a National Training Center rotation in November 2004 and deployed to Iraq January 2005. Additionally responsible as the unit movement officer, coordinating deployment activities and movement of equipment.

Participated in policy and budget discussions relating to counterterrorism, unconventional warfare, direct action, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, civil affairs, information and psychological operations, and counter-proliferation of WMD. Produced a research paper with recommended US policy positions (pre-9/11) on the Taliban and their harboring of Osama bin Laden; briefed recommendations to senior OSD policy officials at the end of the internship. Observed policy development with respect to special operations in the early stages of the transition of political appointees from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration.
