As the head of security for a leading security systems company in South Africa, I have a wide range of responsibilities and challenges. I am operationally responsible for the security teams in the company as a whole, ensuring that they deliver high-quality service to our clients and adhere to the best practices and standards in the industry. I am also responsible as the designated security manager for a residential estate comprising 450 homes and approximately 1300 residents. I look after all security aspects at the estate in totality, including the onsite CCTV, which provides 24/7 monitoring and recording of all activities and incidents. I am also responsible for the implementation and management of a CCTV business unit called Utrack Surveillance, which provides off site monitoring to residential estates, complexes and public space monitoring. Utrack Surveillance is an innovative solution that leverages advanced technology and analytics to detect and prevent crime, vandalism and other threats. I oversee the installation, maintenance and operation of the CCTV cameras and systems, as well as the training and supervision of the operators and analysts. My role requires me to liaise with various stakeholders, such as clients, suppliers, law enforcement agencies, community members and media representatives. I also have to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations regarding privacy, data protection and security.
