The University of Texas at San Antonio operates the Department of Energy funded Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII) that works with leading manufacturers to boost their competitiveness through improvements in cybersecurity and energy efficiency. Driving secure energy savings in the manufacturing will have a broad impact, leading to cost savings and improved U.S. competitiveness.

WiCyS is pronounced "WEE sis"Despite nascent demand and tremendous opportunities in the job market, cybersecurity remains an area with a significant shortage of skilled professionals regionally, nationally and internationally. Sadly, women’s representation in this field is remarkably low.The WiCyS initiative began in 2013 through a National Science Foundation grant. Since 2013, with support from preeminent industry, civilian agency and academic partners, WiCyS has become a leading collaborative force focused to educate, recruit and advance women in the field.In December of 2017 WiCyS incorporated as a U.S. non-profit company.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), the CWE/CAPEC program – operated by the CISA-funded Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDI) – facilitates the special interest group focusing on security weaknesses in industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT): the CWE-CAPEC ICS/OT SIG.

With the review/reset of all DoD advisory boards in 2021, served three years of a four-year term as a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) which is a Federal Advisory Committee that provides independent advice on matters of science and technology relating to the Air Force mission, reporting directly to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Expanding the impact of cybersecurity research.Was on assignment as Chief Science Officer to UTSA/CyManII.Served as the Chief Scientist for the CERT Division 2010-2020.The CERT Division (cert.org) is the largest division at the Software Engineering Institute (sei.cmu.edu), a Department of Defense Federally Funded Research & Development Center (FFRDC) operated by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
