As a successful facilitator and implementer of Continuous Improvement principles using Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques, I have been involved in improving business processes across a range of industries including Chemicals, Plastics, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, Tarmac/Cement products, Food and Furniture. Examples of improvements include a 40% increase in output in a chemical plant, 50% increase in output in a furniture factory Increasingly the work has included the support services of organisations including the administrative and transactional processes. I find that the manufacturing side of businesses has consistently received attention for improvement but the effect on manufacturing of the relationship between the administrative and support processes is often poorly understood or addressed. As a result this has lead to more work at Executive level using the concepts of Policy Deployment (Hoshin Kanri) and Value Streaming to obtain an environment which is more supportive of sustainable improvement. My philosophy is to concentrate on the principles of Improvement regardless of the philosophical grouping of tools and techniques. The key is to use the right tool for the situation in hand and implement the identified changes with the people involved.Specialties:Policy Deployment (Hoshin Kanri),Value Stream Identification and Mapping,Application of Improvement tools (Lean and Six Sigma) across Value Streams,Facilitation of multi-disciplinary teams at all levels of organisations to effect change and improvement,Training in Improvement tools and techniques,BIT NVQ training and assessment,Manufacturing and Service sectors.

PartnerStone And Watts Booksellers Jul 1993 - Feb 1996I ran this business with my wife part-time for two and a half years before going full-time following redundancy. We had two shops at the peak and had a more a more sophisticated stock control and ordering system than some of the national chains. One of the best jobs either of us have had with complete responsibility for dealing with customers through to stock selection. Sadly we had to close the shops and wind up the business due to making 'the wrong decision for all the right reasons'. A fantastic example of the challenges of management and ownership with many lessons learnt that I have been able to bring to my current role.
