Principal Embedded Software EngineerRed 6 Apr 2023 - PresentOrlando, Florida, UsResponsible for development and maintenance of all embedded software in v1.0 of the Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS) for in-flight training of fighter pilots. Successfully demonstrated with commercial and government partners. Now developing the v2.0 system. -
Principal Software EngineerAsi By Rocket Lab Dec 2021 - Apr 2023Littleton, Co, UsIt was super rewarding working with the ASI and Rocket Lab teams to build the flight software for the Lunar Photon spacecraft that successfully deployed the CAPSTONE satellite into lunar orbit as part of the NASA Artemis mission to return to the moon. -
Cyber Devices Embedded EngineerLgs Innovations Jun 2015 - Dec 2021Herndon, Virginia, UsLed multiple teams of remote and hybrid collaborators in building secure communications equipment for US government clients. Android and embedded Linux. -
Senior Research EngineerSouthwest Research Institute Jun 1999 - Jun 2015San Antonio, Tx, UsI led the development and deployment of custom wireless sensor systems to measure geo/hydrologic systems in ways not previously possible. Successes include:► Developing water-borne sensors for mapping undergound karst aquifers► Deploying custom wireless sensor probes into narrow boreholes to perform ultrasonic imaging of underground cave and karst features, thus contributing to the protection of a hydroelectric dam in Tennessee.► Developing a low-cost ultrasonic mapping sensor system for inspection of culverts and pipes that protect roadways.I previously contributed to the development and deployment of a wireless sensor network for landslide monitoring. Through the course of the project, I conducted field work at a remote landslide in Idaho to deploy, repair, and maintain a custom built wireless sensor network. This network used advanced techniques to measure relative and changing distances between nodes in the network to understand how the landslide continued to shift and settle over time.As part of a team, I developed a millimeter-wave imaging system prototype which enabled the military to detect weapon launches under conditions not possible using available technologies and methods. I was responsible for the collection, processing, display, and analysis of the data from all the sensors in the system including radiometers, video, IR video, temperature, humidity, audio, heading, and tilt. -
Research EngineerSouthwest Research Intstitute 1999 - 2006While working in the Signal Explotation and Geolocation Division of Southwest Research Institute, I contributed to the development embedded systems for performing signal acquisition, analysis, and radio direction finding for HF/VHF/UHF signals on land- and ship-based platforms. I worked with team members to develop the systems in a lab environment as well as personally installing, testing, and debugging them in harsh environmental conditions found on military ships and submarines. I enjoyed the unique challenges of the field work required to deploy and test a system in remote locations.
