HIPAA-compliant API development. I inherited the backend for a telemedicine platform serving Lemonaid Health, now owned by 23andMe.The legacy code lacked unit tests, dependency injection, and an architecture that would scale up gracefully. I have been changing all that incrementally in short sprints while maintaining backward compatibility and a high degree of security. I have been converting the API from a client-specific application layer to a resource-based RESTful API in an effort to increase versatility and decrease quirkiness.The platform supports live video between doctor and patient, and integration with payment gateways, geocoding APIs, address standardization services, online pharmacies, and lab services.

Design and development of a REST API platform standardizing access to big data for several visualization & analytics apps. This involved dissection of a monolithic LAMP app to separate data access, business logic, and UI, as well as redesign of a legacy API to make existing endpoints more RESTful and code more readable, extensible, and testable.

LAMP application development for a residential solar financing platform serving solar installers nationwide. I helped to migrate the application from an immature architecture to a service-oriented approach with better separation of concerns, identifying problem areas and suggesting ways forward. In addition I did a major overhaul of the unit testing suite, and lowered the barriers to entry for developers who were not previously in the habit of writing tests. Becoming successful in this role made me an expert unit tester and very well-versed in writing testable code.

Application development using Java & PHP. Integration of applications over Mule ESB. Cloud provisioning and deployment using Chef and Ruby/Rake. Data aggregation using MongoDB. Direction of engineering staff, including code reviews, performance reviews, architectural guidance and mentoring.

Helped to build, release and support a complete site application rewrite using Spring Framework and Hibernate. Helped implement a new content management system, migrating all data from legacy systems and porting data feed processors to a Spring Batch implementation. Assisted the site operations team with web server configurations and was the go-to man for help with any Perl and regex questions.

Worked in the Systems Integration group of this interactive television software development house. Our group handled much of the front-end development work and content aggregation.

Direction of a small team of web developers, enterprise application support personnel, and one DBA. I worked closely with the directors of content and creative to produce web applications for techtv.com end users and internal staff. My work spanned the full development cycle, from proposal to finished product.

Back in the days before open-source e-commerce platforms existed, we built our own using Linux, Apache, PHP and Oracle, selling prescription drugs and drugstore sundries. I worked on the application and was promoted to Director afterward.
