Growing up, I always wanted to be a writer. I wanted to write epic fantasy stories like the ones I read in Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms novels as a child. To delve into the minutia of magic, adventure, and grand deeds was all I dreamed about. But it wasn’t until I studied English Literature in university that I really fell in love with writing. One reason for this is that my courses explored all different genres of literature and delved into many more varied themes than the simple good vs. evil of most fantasy novels. Another reason is that the way the teachers conveyed the material opened my eyes to how deep and powerful the stories we read in those classes were.To me, my teachers really showcased how important delivery method and design are for any type of content. This is a lesson I’ve taken to heart in every job I’ve had since. When I worked at Shopify, I helped new and aspiring small business owners to develop websites that would deliver their content and products to a diverse group of customers all over the world. As an ESL teacher, I had to learn how to tailor standardized lessons to the needs of individual students of differing levels. Now, working in the online space in Content & Learning Design, it’s my job to deliver content in the best ways I can find to educate learners and engage audiences, just like my teachers did with me. I’ve completed contracts with many businesses online to deliver such content, including the Instructional Design Company GEVC.
