The team won many awards - but that was due to their talent, not mine.I believe we were the first publication in London to have a specialist fintech reporter and I edited and oversaw much of the fintech coverage. including a quarterly fintech magazine and the Fintech40 list of the sector's most influential people. We also started an annual focus on philanthropy.My proudest coverage call: in January 2016 we published a 12-page special about what would happen to financial services if the UK voted for Brexit. Eight wonderful years covering the last European colony in Asia as it went from British rule back to China. Coverage included a year as a humour columnist and two years doing investigative feature work. I broke a number of big stories many of which showed how Beijing was trying to strenghten its control over the city and reverse promises it made on how Hong Kong would have substantial independence under Chinese rule

I started with The Engineer, a weekly magazine, and then went freelance working for The Guardian, Independent, FT and other publications.With the UK economy in deep recession and newspapers cutting back on staff I left the UK with my portable typewriter in my backpack and went to live in Sydney for six months working as a freelance for many of the same outlets.
