Gretchen is a gifted engineer with corporative, driven, and hardworking personality. She is creative and intuitive in many areas excelling in mathematics, logical computation, and practicality. Gretchen is a happy and motivated member of a team.Gretchen studied Architecture and Green Design in High School and when to college at SDSU for Civil & Environmental Engineering. She started working for the City of San Diego Water Resource Department as her first Engineering Position. She then wanted to work in the field and was hire by Hensel Phelps as a Field and Office Engineer working on the Smart Corner Project, a mixed-use project in downtown San Diego where she managed LEED compliance and SWPPP and as-builds and RFI'S. She also led the surveying team measuring for pre and post tension slab analysis as well as chalking out control lines for sub-contractors. During this time, she acquired her EIT and wanted to pursue her professional licensing.And eventually become a Liscensed Engineer and Architect. She then started working at Palos Verdes Engineering, doing structural analysis for custom designed homes.When the economy shifted with the Mortgage Crisis, she found herself looking for employment after Palos Verdes needed to downsize. She worked as an Assistant Estimator, then as the economy still struggled, she moved to Napa for a position as a Wine Laboratory Scientist at Sterling Vineyards. That experience changed her career path for the next 10 years. This path led to her owning her own business and achieved a degree vineyard management and enology. She learned about plant science and soil science and the natural environment and fermentation. Backed with her engineering degree, leadership skills, and driven personality she started, owned, & managed her successful business for 10 years. It is there she really strengthened her leadership, management, communication, coordination, collaboration, contract negations, marketing, and organization skills while fulfilling 1000's of contracts at Fire and Wine Catering and Event Management..San Diego is Gretchen's home. She recently moved back to be closer to her family. She now owns De La Viña Catering & Events in San Diego. She is also pursuing her other interests in Architecture, the Natural Environment, Plant Science, and Sustainability.
