I truly do enjoy Printing in all of its forms. Have worked at least a little in three of the four main variants, Screen, Flexo, and Offset. Enjoy the history, even when it means I get my hands dirty (especially then, I suppose!) since I really did have fun when I got to hand-set type for the Ludlow. But that's not to say I want to give up all the wonders of InDesign and type that can adjust to fit just the way I want. Most of the time, I use or match what the customer sends in--there isn't much "Design" in my position here--but I'm fine with that, as long as I can make a job look its best.

Moved to day shift in 2013, and now it's mostly Typesetting, but I still keep my hand in with other tasks. Added some Excel tasks in 2014, to set up for complex numbering at the ink jet printer on the press, such as Mod10 and DSR.

Extrusion OperatorAmerican Polyworks Oct 1995 - Mar 1996Maintained and Operated two to three (depending on schedule) plastic film extrusion machines. Two directly to roll, one direct to press and then to garment bag machine, and then to roll. This involved maintaining unloaders, monitoring mix level and feed speeds, temperature, adjusting die for out-of-round if needed, maintaining treaters and sizing cage rollers and other miscellaneous bits of the mechanism to keep the film of uniform thickness all the way around the bubble. Also pulling a new bubble at need, or pulling the die and the screw in dire need and cleaning out the whole assembly.

Press OperatorAmerican Polyworks Apr 1995 - Oct 1995Columbus, KsMonitor viscosity and level of ink, clean and maintain as needed, monitor and maintain bag machine in-line, and be on hand every 15 minutes for roll winder change. This particular press was run in-line with an extruder, and as such, shut-down was not simple or desired. I also functioned as Press Helper on the two bigger presses and Extrusion Helper in odd moments or if "my" press was scheduled for downtime.

Awards Nov 1992 - Jan 1993Pittsburg, KsCleaned and prepared screens for screen printing, created photographic positives to use in creating screens for screen printing, assisted as directed in loading and unloading shirts to be screen printed, as well as checking for stray ink and removing it if needed, then folding, packing, and shipping at need. This job was known to be temporary from the start. The University team was doing well, and if they had won the National Championship a second year, I would have been trained and ready to help them through a very busy time, except that at the last minute, they lost, and so did I. But it was interesting while it lasted.
