Gretchen led GE's EHS governance program, including a distributed network of EHS audit team leaders that conduct independent audits in GE's operations, at locations where GE technicians perform service activity, and at project sites where GE is providing equipment or oversight. The program included customized audits at each location; aspects covered during audits include risk management, regulatory compliance, and GE's management system. Audit planning is conducted based on a sophisticated risk model for each operation that accounts for operational and program factors to influence audit frequency and content. Gretchen's team has driven technology into the audit process using various remote tools, driving the outcomes of increased coverage, decreased cost, and enhanced expertise as part of audits.

Fairfield, Ct

Gretchen worked directly with the VP of EHS to re-imagine the distribution of the EHS function across GE's global business portfolio as part of GE's transition to a shared service system for cross-company services. She worked with HR and functional leadership to design a structure intended to allocate resources based on a business and geographic risk model. In this capacity she also led and coached projects aligned to a Lean Six Sigma framework intended to drive rapid prototyping and feedback on outcomes.

Gretchen was responsible for energy and greenhouse gas emissions inventory and reduction programs under Ecomagination. In this capacity she links GE’s strong environmental product portfolio with programs that optimize resources in GE’s plants, supply chains, and for GE’s customers. In addition to these programs she also provides strategic direction and planning for the corporate EHS team.

Fairfield, Ct

In this capacity Gretchen was responsible for leading the operational execution of GE's greenhouse gas and energy use reduction programs. She led and coached Energy Treasure Hunt activities at GE operations globally, working with third parties to identify and implement energy and GHG reduction projects. She also collaborated to develop U.S. EPA's Lean, Energy, and Climate toolkit, and spoke extensively at industry forums about employee engagement in sustainability programs. At the same time, Gretchen was also responsible for GE's EHS training efforts, including its premiere operations leader EHS workshop which resulted in customized action plans for each attendee.
