Spring Extern - Office Of The General CounselDucks Unlimited Jan 2021 - Apr 2021As an extern with DU's General Counsel's Office, I researched and wrote memos on various issues related to potential real estate transactions. These projects largely involved researching 26 U.S.C. § 170 regarding the tax consequences of charitable contributions and the types of charitable contributions for which federal income tax deductions are available. I also had the opportunity to work on several State Law research questions regarding real property concepts, charity raffles, and accessing federal conservation funds. -
Research AssistantSmu Dedman School Of Law Jun 2020 - Aug 2020Dallas, Texas, United StatesAs a research assistant for SMU Law's Professor Anna Offit, I reviewed interdisciplinary and social science materials to support her project focused on jury nullification and the impact of non-legal factors on legal decision makers in the criminal case process. I examined these sources for clues as to which nonlegal factors may influence the decisions of law enforcement officers, prosecutors and defense attorneys, and jurors in cases of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, and other crimes of moral outrage. The role of my research was to identify how (if at all) plaintiffs and defendants may be prejudiced as non-legal factors seep into decision making at various stages of criminal cases. -
InternJofie Lamprecht Safaris Jun 2017 - Jul 2017Windhoek, NamibiaDuring my time with JLS I joined a team of utility players dedicated to fine hospitality and a healthy dose of adventure. Headed by Founder and CEO Jofie Lamprecht, we went about the business of preparing safaris and hosting clients in camp. My work-related responsibilities included helping with food preparation and inventory, packing and setting up camps on location, and laundry. Additionally, I was able to interview professional hunters and other officials about conservation strategies from anti-poaching initiatives and national parks to regulated, responsible, fair-chase hunting. A highlight was witnessing cooperation between the government and hunting industry firsthand while working a safari in Waterberg National Park. JLS has since expanded, boasting a permanent camp from which it offers both photographic and traditional safaris as a champion of wildlife conservation.

Assistant DirectorCamp Balcones Springs, L.P. May 2015 - Jun 2017Marble Falls, TxCBS is a co-ed, faith-based camp in central Texas that offers a wide array of activities and experiences to campers ages 7-17. I took on a variety of roles during my three summers with Camp Balcones Springs: live-in counselor for middle school girls, instructor in the outdoor activities department (fishing, canoeing, archery, riflery), and assistant director of middle school girls. As a counselor I was placed in a cabin of 8-10 girls per session. I assumed responsibility for keeping track of their health, safety, and overall well-being, as well as contacting their parents with regular updates. As an instructor for outdoor activities I organized equipment, lifeguarded, and taught campers how to safely fire .22 rifles and bows and arrows, how to fish, canoe, and kayak. In the assistant director role I managed a staff of 15-20 counselors placed in cabins each session and assumed responsibility for their campers (roughly 65 girls ages 11-14). I planned evening activities including scavenger hunts, baking competitions, and slip and slide kickball, designed to encourage teamwork and allow campers to discover their various strengths and talents.
