Conducted detailed investigation of reaction mechanisms leading to the optimization of diastereoselective formation of C-C, C-O, and C-N bonds. Performed NMR studies to provide evidence for the strong chelating ability of alkylzinc halides. Developed a general method to reverse the inherent selectivity of additions to α and β-silyloxy aldehydes, α-silyloxy ketones, and α-chloro aldehydes using alkylzinc halides. Developed a synthetic route to access α-halo aldimines under mild conditions and implemented a new project involving highly selective additions to halo aldimines. Trained and mentored undergraduate, incoming, and visiting students, including three whose work was published in peer-reviewed journals. Prepared and edited three manuscripts for journal publication. Prepared sections for grant applications.

Collaborating to design and implement novel approaches to the heterogenization of enantioselective catalysts for practical and recyclable use on scale. Synthesized solid-supported BINOLate catalysts. Utilized high-throughput experimentation to apply solid-supported catalysts in the development of several enantioselective reaction methods. Conducted experiments to elucidate differences between homogeneous and heterogeneous reaction mechanisms.

Used palladium catalyzed cross-coupling chemistry and microwave reactions to efficiently build a library of small molecule derivatives. Gained experience with purification techniques, LC/MS, and NMR.
