As the Chief Operating Officer, State Services, Ms. Thompson is responsible for overseeing the State & Corporate Services Division of HSAG and providing leadership, direction, and oversight for all Medicaid state services and external quality review related work provided in 18 states. Ms. Thompson ensures that all work is consistent with overall company goals and she manages the staff responsible for the day-to-day operations, budgets, and internal timelines associated with all HSAG state service contracts.

Gretchen Thompson, MBA, CPHQ, is an Executive Director for Health Services Advisory Group, Inc. (HSAG). Ms. Thompson is responsible for overseeing external quality review (EQR) activities also provided oversight of the Performance Measure Validation (PMV) and Performance Improvement Project (PIP) Validation teams. Ms. Thompson has more than 20 years experience in Medicaid and has experience with multiple Medicaid delivery systems--managed care, fee for service, long-term care, and physical and behavioral health. Ms. Thompson has a strong background in federal and state health care policy, data systems and processes, financing, and quality assessment and performance improvement for Medicaid and Medicaid/Medicare programs. As the executive director, Ms. Thompson oversees the development of all projects related to compliance reviews, performance measure validation, performance improvement project validation, encounter data validation, focused studies, network adequacy analyses, and all EQR-related consulting and technical assistance activities. Prior to joining HSAG, Ms. Thompson was president of Pinnacle Strategies, a private health care consulting firm, which focused on Medicaid waiver program development and implementation, program evaluation for 1915(b) waivers, regulatory compliance review, strategic planning, business development, and quality improvement. She was selected by the National Advisory Board on Improving Health Care Services for Seniors and People with Disabilities to author the community mobilization whitepaper, Declaration for Independence: A Call to Transform Health and Long Term Services for Seniors and People with Disabilities. Ms. Thompson was also a member of the Heinz Family Philanthropies consulting team.Ms. Thompson holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University. She has been a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) since 2000.
