Gretchen was one of the founding Principals of Primen (now part of EPRI Solutions Inc). She conducted and oversaw market research for the utility industry, with a focus on energy efficiency and home automation.

Gretchen held positions of progressive responsibility from research associate to Director of this nonprofit organization, which promotes energy efficiency, green building, and environmental protection in the United States and abroad. The prevailing focus of IMT’s work is energy efficiency in buildings and Gretchen's activities included technical and market research, policy and program development, and promotion of best practices and knowledge exchange. Work involved collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

Under the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, continued my graduate research on carbon permit trading as a mechanism for reducing climate change. Results were published in a paper: http://ies.lbl.gov/iespubs/42001.pdf

Gretchen started as a Research Associate at Essex Environmental during and after college and was promoted over several years to Senior Project Manager, with a wide range of responsibilities for dozens of projects for the infrastructure industry including such companies as SMUD, PG&E, SDG&E, Wild Goose Gas Storage Company, and Tuscarora. Gretchen developed and delivered environmental training programs, conducted and oversaw construction monitoring, prepared several Proponent's Environmental Assessments for utilities in compliance with CPUC regulations, and assisted with environmental permitting strategies.
