I am passionate about the use of geo-spatial tech in the field of crime prevention and management. The spatial and statistical analysis of crime patterns has proven to be an essential tool in combatting crime, in formulating crime prevention strategies and ultimately creating safer urban spaces. Although Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been used for decades by law enforcement agencies and crime analysts (internationally), to identify spatial patterns, trends, and crime hotspots, the under-utilisation in South Africa remains problematic.
