This included a number of award-winning stories, such as “One step at a time” (1st place, Best Feature Story, Nevada Press Association), “Trail blazers” (3rd place, Best Feature Story, Nevada Press Association), and “Climate change — Climate Change: Forests, wildlife, fire danger all expected to be affected by warming Sierra,” (3rd place, Best Explanatory Journalism, Nevada Press Association).Notable projects: I also crafted a number of extensive outdoor writing assignments; including a thru-hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail with written, photographic and video coverage.Photography: I became a primary photographer for the newspaper, shooting a variety of pictures from landscapes to sports events such as the Tour De Nez, the Dew Tour and the Freeride World Tour.Analytical thinking and comprehension: I often worked with complicated subjects, understanding them from all sides, then presented them in an objective and straight-forward fashion for the readers.Information gathering: Whether in a phone interview, in person, meeting coverage or other research, I gathered as much information on a given subject as possible within time constraints. This means anything from fast short-hand note taking to cultivating unique sources for a variety of insights.Networking: Over four years I’ve worked with the regions local, regional, state and federal government agencies, businesses, nonprofits, advocacy groups and individuals, developing extensive working relationships.
