About George Janke
I am a junior at the University of Michigan with a passion for sports and especially sports analytics. I am majoring in Data Science, which advances my interests by giving me a strong background in statistics and computer programming, especially in C++ and R. I am minoring in Mandarin Chinese, which has been an interest of mine since living in Singapore as a child. After graduating from college, I look forward to working for a sports team, league, or media company in data analytics.To this point, University of Michigan Men's Rugby has given me my biggest opportunities for growth. As Internal Operations Director, I learned Wordpress, HTML, SQL, PHP, and Excel, all of which were necessary as I re-designed mrugby.com. The job also forced me to hone my skills as a writer for the website, and I expanded my role to include our nascent rugby analytics program.As President, I learned how to manage a team of 15 people. I optimized meetings with pre-set agendas, re-structured our positions into four departments to allow our operations to scale up in the future, and created a new position dedicated to rugby analytics. Other achievements during my time in charge include doubling the club's budget (both revenue and expenses), outsourcing multiple positions to the University as a whole, and launching Michigan Rugby's 2030 vision for achieving varsity status.I also play for the rugby team. After leading the team in minutes played in 2021, I'm honored to have been chosen as Captain in spring 2022. In my free time, I'm passionate about fantasy sports, sabermetrics, and honing my Mandarin Chinese.
