  • Cloudera
    Engineer
    Cloudera Sep 2012 - Aug 2017
    Santa Clara, California, Us
I am a software engineer on Spark at Cloudera. My main area of focus is streaming engines, in particular, Spark Streaming. I was responsible for leading the effort to deliver Spark 2 to Cloudera customers. Previously, I was the team lead for the Packaging and Integration team at Cloudera. The Packaging and Integration team is responsible for integrating various components in the Hadoop ecosystem into a single coherent distribution. This involves integration the components with each other (for example, Hive's integration with HCatalog and Hadoop) but also integration of the same components with underlying infrastructure (JVM, Operating System). We are also responsible for developing rpm/debian packages and a custom open source format (parcel) for distributing Cloudera software. I contributed significantly to the re-design of the package versioning scheme for Cloudera's software for latest major release.I am also the technical lead for Cloudera Labs initiative where we cutting edge projects that are not currently a part of our supported offerings e.g. Kafka.I have also won (along with my friend and then co-worker, Jarcec Cecho) a few company hackathons during my tenure at Cloudera.
  • Oanda
Big Data And Business Intelligence Analyst
    Oanda Mar 2011 - Sep 2012
    New York, Us
I worked on transitioning OANDA's marketing data from existing standalone database to next generation infrastructure for scalable and flexible storage of massive amounts of data. I used, implemented and enhanced many open source projects for this purpose: Apache Hadoop and Apache Hive. We leveraged much of the functionality provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for our deployment and testing. I also contributed to the Apache Hive mailing list and Apache Hive community wiki.I also designed and developed portlets in Java and JavaScript for Liferay portal (on MVC framework) to share business intelligence derived from company data. I also leveraged open sources libraries like HighCharts to display information on Liferay portal. The Big Data transition also involved creating new and updating existing web data related ETL processes, implementing marketing attribution algorithms, generating new metrics and insights from the big data infrastructure that were previously unavailable and supporting other members of the team in their transition to the new infrastructure. This new infrastructure allows the Business Intelligence team to access, aggregate and present web and marketing data in a coherent, intelligent form and enable the stakeholders to make informed business and marketing decisions based on it. The team is responsible for extracting the data from the logs and campaigns, transforming and aggregating the data into different forms and presenting the data in forms of charts and reports to the stakeholders.I also gave team-wide and company-wide presentations on the basics and usage of Hadoop, Hive and other big data technologies within the company.
  • Qualcomm
    Software Engineer
    Qualcomm Jun 2009 - Mar 2011
    San Diego, Ca, Us
I worked as a Embedded Software Engineer at Qualcomm Inc. where I was a member of the Telephony team for Symbian and Android Operating Systems. The Telephony team is responsible for designing, implementing, testing and supporting a licensee software layer connecting Qualcomm's proprietary modem interface with a High Level Operating System interface (like Symbian, Android, Windows Phone, etc.). I was the owner of SIM Phonebook whereby I designed, developed, tested and supported the functionality of SIM Phonebook on Qualcomm's Android and Symbian devices. SIM Phonebook allows users to store their contacts on SIM memory instead of or in conjunction with phone's flash memory.I saw a need for better documentation of the version of various modem services available on Qualcomm modem builds. Consequently, I initiated and developed a Perl project to index the version numbers of various modem services present on modem builds. I also applied a HTML frontend to it so others could access it. This interface allowed developers, testers and team leads to quickly determine the service version present in a given modem build. The front end and the perl service is being used by more than 100 people in the modem apps team.
