An international company specialising in investment management for Emerging Markets, with the head office in London, the fund managers in Guernsey and several research sites around the world. Responsibilities began with the continued development of an in-house front office application (using Microsoft Access) and progressed to encompass full management of the I.T. department.Main Achievements:Developed front office application to provide useful portfolio purchase/spread evaluations.Developed data feed from back office to SQL for use by front office application.Upgraded Novell network to full Windows NT domain, along with all workstations.Employed and trained I.T. staff to provide full user/system support.Supported Reuters/Bloomberg feeds, SWIFT messaging and Custodian systems.Started development of internet/intranet connection, domain email and VPN.Liased closely with Directors to ensure I.T. structure in-line with company direction.Provided hardware/software evaluation and purchase advice.Note: During the period of this contract I also acquired numerous other smaller sites and provided similar services to them as required.

One of the larger full-service stock photographic library agencies, providing licensing rights to worldwide clients for the use of photographs, covering a variety of subjects.Responsibilities began with support of the in-house photographic library system (using DataFlex) and progressed to assist with the project management and data modelling/conversion of a replacement system (using PowerBuilder and SQL Server). This involved working mainly from my home office with visits to both London and Paris offices.Main Achievements:Rapidly managed to support in-house system after sudden departure of predecessor.Detected and removed time bomb left in system by predecessor.Liased with French developers in order to synchronise data modelling changes.Wrote majority of data conversion scripts overcoming numerous corrupt entries.

Support, design and development of a large hospital ward and patient administration system (using DataFlex) running over UNIX at around 20 hospital sites. Support was provided by dial in connections and development included links to Patient Administration Systems (PAS), bar code data entry and X-windows front end.

Formed a small independent computer shop selling home/business machines, software, services, etc. Towards the end of the first year I was head hunted and began contract work, with the shop being managed during my absence.

Support & development of British Rail plant and machinery maintenance administration system, along with smaller safety audit systems (using DataFlex) on Novell networks at various stations around the country. Progressed from mainly development to more project management and system design, producing software specifications for the pool of programmers.

Short contract to sort problems within a data collection system used to produce their Quality Assurance Register publication. Written in DataFlex running on a DOS Apricot network.

Short contract to support and troubleshoot a large in house accounts suite until permanent staff could be recruited. Written in DataFlex running on a TurboDOS/CPM Minstrel 5 system.
