I did my PhD at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland (prof. J. Potempa) and Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany (prof. T. Holak) where I began my adventure with protein crystallography. Back in Poland I participated in establishing the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology JU where I created an independent crystallography research group which I lead since 2012, currently as a Full Professor. My early works included characterization of virulence factors of a dangerous human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. Currently my laboratory is involved in structural and functional characterization of promising therapeutic targets in cancer and neglected tropical diseases. I co-authored ~120 scientific articles, promarily in biochemistry and structural biology.Along basic research, I was involved in R&D and translational activities co-funding and supporting the expansion of a biotechnology company BioCentrum Ltd. Later I organized Preparatis Ltd. where I held the CEO position of between 2014-2018.
